Review of the Hunter 376 by Glenn Surkont

Year built 1997
Location of boat Cranston RI
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Racing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? sO FAR YES.
Gear that's been added Chart plotting GPS, inverter, refrigeration, added some racing hardware.
Structural or complex improvements no
The boat's best features confortable cockpit, roomy interior, we have the tri cabin which is great when taking crew overnight. fun to sail.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. raising the main is very tough and i will be making some hardware changes to help. dutchman hangs up on upper 2 battens sometimes which impedes sail shape. headsail inadequate for racing and will need to be replaced.
Sailing characterisitcs we won the first race we entered against some pretty good boats. she's a little tender but i need to set the reef a little sooner. she's very fast and comfortable and i very much enjoy racing her.
Motoring characterisitcs the engine is somewhat noisy down below, but i am happy motoring at 7 kts. there is a slight walk in reverse but not bad at all.
Liveability wonderful. roomy and plenty of ventilation.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) i needed to have the keel rebeaded and hunter sent a team up from fla. to do this warrabty work. they did a timely and outstanding job.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any good. but they are busy and at times are slow about parts.
