Review of the Hunter 22 by Bob Becker

Year built 1985
Location of boat holland MI
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in repu
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, this has been an excellent small boat with a fin keel which makes it excellent for Lake Michigan day sailing. Only drawback is that an outboard motor is a problem if you have any seas. This was one of the best Hunters built. excellent interior and a strong rig, high freeboard, very stable and a good sailor.I plan to buy a a 28.5 if possible.
Gear that's been added Harken roller furler, depth and speed.treads on swim ladder, cunningham, tiller tamer,
Structural or complex improvements None required
The boat's best features Well constructed, strong rig, high freeboard, teak interior.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Bilge accumulates about an inch of water, but does not seem to continue. Not much of a problem.
Sailing characterisitcs Points well with a 135 genoa, roller furler,Seems to do well in light air and can handle heavy air and sea. No real problems considering only 22 feet.
Motoring characterisitcs Outboards are designed for flat water.
Liveability Would be ok, but not inclined to camp out much.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No experience
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any No experiencs, I know Don Pollard of Pollard's Landing well and he must be one of your best dealers, for a small town like Holland.Hunter makes good boats for the money.
