Review of the Hunter 34 by Clyde Bauer

Year built 1984
Location of boat San Diego, CA
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes! Most boat for the money that we could find in Southern California! Wanted no smaller than a 36ft....but upon finding this very roomy 34, quickly changed our mind.
Gear that's been added This boat came with so much added equipment, not much left to add. Probably will add solar soon. Very pleased with the Adler-Barbor refrigerator unit, the Heart Inverter, and the Edsen cockpit speakers that have been added by previous owner.
Structural or complex improvements none
The boat's best features Spacious interior, best value 34 ft sloop around.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. nothing, so far. Previous owner cut a hole on starboard side of engine compartment (and sealed with plastic porthole opening) for easier access.
Sailing characterisitcs Very tender for wife. Learning to adjust sails, or sail with jib alone in 15 winds. Handles the wake when U.S. Navy, large tour boats, and other large boats stir up the water in the bay.
Motoring characterisitcs Very pleased with the Yanmar engine.
Liveability Find it simply superior for just the two of us. But now we have room for the other couples that seem to always be waiting for an invite.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) n/a
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any H
