Year built 1983
Location of boat Little River SC
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1994
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, definatel. I have been most pleased with the Hunter 34. It has met all my expectations and is a stable, well-built craft. of course, being a bit older, she requires a bit of maintenence, but that is part of the fun and the challenge of ownership. I would recommend the 34 to those seeking a first boat (or a second for that matter) but who are not ready or able to afford the expense of a new (or newer) boat.
Gear that's been added Lots! Offshore liferaft, epirb, GPS navigation, Autohelm autopilot, extra battery bank, improved safety gear, including lifesling and hoist, lots of cosmetic upgrades including additional teak on deck, new cockpit table, new bimini and dodger, new cockpit cushions etc. Currently awaiting delivery of all new interior cushions.
Structural or complex improvements Not really, although I have just finished refinishing the interior teakwork complete, which was time consuming, but a worthwhile winter project.
The boat's best features Sturdy, stable and very seaworthy.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Have had some blistering problems below the waterline, but plan to remidy this this next winter.
Sailing characterisitcs as above, stable and secure.
Motoring characterisitcs prop is somewhat inadequate and trhe little yanmar is pushed to her limit---could use a little morew power.
Liveability Comfortable and spacious for 2, but will accomodate 4 for a long weekend with ease.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) no direct dealings with them
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any bought direct from previous owner----GET A COMPETENT SURVEY BEFORE BUYING A USED BOAT! Well worth the cost to avoid cosly surprises. I looked for two years before finding a boat I felt good about.
