Review of the Hunter 34 by bill hughes

Location of boat smith mountain lake, va.

Owner bought the boat in 1994  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes  
Gear that's been added we completely restored the boat but new gear was mostly creature comforts like vcr,tv,microwave,cushions,dodger,cockpit enclosure,etc.  
Structural or complex improvements we had to do an extensive bottom job for blisters which kept the boat out of the water for about 9 months.  
The boat's best features the cabin is absolutely the best layout for a 34' boat, old or new. the classic lines look like a sailboat, which i like. it is easily sailed single handed or with crew.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. the rear water tank has developed a leak. two of the side ports have a small leak. the adler barbour refridgeration has a leak in the freon line which i have not been able to fix, but the unit works great ( for a little while)  
Sailing characterisitcs  
Motoring characterisitcs the yanmar could be a bit larger but we can motor at 6.5 knots without too much problem. the engine always starts and runs great (but is a little noisy)  
Liveability it is very livable for 2 people. 4 is acceptable for a weekend but susan(my wife) and i find italmost perfect.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) when you extensive work on anything you need the manufacturer to help and they did. i was and am always treated as if i just bought their newest and largest boat. if they don't have an item they will try to put you with somone who can help. i am very pleased with hunter's cust. service staff.  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any we bought the boat through strictly nautical in charlotte (acting as broker) and was pleased with their service and follow-up. nice people.
