Review of the Hunter 33_77-83 by Bob Graham

Year built 1978
Location of boat South Florida
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in Flor
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes
Gear that's been added Autohelm 4000 A/P, MarineAir 12,000 BTU A/C, Isotherm holding plate fridg. Force 10 LPG stove. Horizon depth
Structural or complex improvements Rewired most of the boat's 12v. and 110v. electrical systems. Added a second breaker panel for 12v. additions. Added a Balmar 75 amp alt. Rebuilt the Edson steering (pulleys, cables, bearings). Cut in an engine access panel in the head opening up the stb. side of the engine compartment. Airconditioning. Refrigeration. LPG stove. Hood roller furling. Replaced opening ports with rain drain type.
The boat's best features Sails well, easy to single hand.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Deck compression under the mast step. The split backstay obstructs passage around the helm area. I find the 5'3
Sailing characterisitcs Sails well in light air. Very responsive helm.
Motoring characterisitcs I think the 2QM15 Yanmar was a little small for the boat or the boat is over proped. With a clean hull max rpm is 2000. Thinking about replacing the two blade prop with a smaller pitched three blade screw.
Liveability I have lived on the boat alone for 11/2 years. It's OK for one. Cruises OK for two. Would like more water tankage.
