Review of the Hunter 31_83-87 by Drew

Year built 1984
Location of boat S. FL
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in East
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I got her for around half low book,(distress sale) We looked around a lot, found a few other possibilities but, when I checked her out she had more interior volume than anything else. Appearance was good
Gear that's been added AM/FM stereo cassett, AM/FM stereo CD,new VHF
Structural or complex improvements No, but boat ready for re-fit.
The boat's best features Interior volume, the rig, appearance, sailing ability, boat per dollar, interior layout, running rigging layout, large destroyer type wheel,(although it does make getting around in the cockpit difficult at times). storage in
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. This is easy, this boat has suffered a leak at the mast step long enough before I got her to nicely rot out the compression post, and part of the bulkhead between the head
Sailing characterisitcs Boat sails well, even in moderate air. Points well, I have the deeper draft version. Tends to a little tender during the stronger puffs, but nothing unusual. Aft swept spreaders at times get in the way when sailing a broad reach or down wind. Tacks nicely.
Motoring characterisitcs Mine has the grossly underpowered 13HP Yanmar, spinning a little 2 bladed prop. A 3 blade
Liveability Exellent. Although very small v berth, (are you listening H? real people sleep there). Head also tiny. Nice layout, good size main salon, price being forward space. Does the liveaboard thing well. Bigger water tankage please.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) N/A
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Didn't seem too entheusiastic, probably due to low selling cost.
