Review of the Hunter 34 by Charlie98117

Year built 1983
Location of boat Seattle, WA
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2014
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes, no regrets at all.
Gear that's been added Replaced the depth and knot meters with new MFD, added GPS and replaced the old autopilot with new model that talks to the GPS. Have a wind instrument that I will add to the mix when I take down the mast.
Structural or complex improvements Not yet but there is some minor crushing showing at the beam below the mast. I am planning a compression post replacement.
The boat's best features Great galley, 2 double berths and roomy cabin
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. There is a slight starboard list that I made worse when I added larger house batteries.
Sailing characterisitcs Sails great, were very happy. As noted in other reviews, she is tender in stronger winds, we reef at about 15 knots.
Motoring characterisitcs No problems, motors about 7.5 knots at 2800 rpm
Liveability Excellent for our use. Plenty of room for 2 couples on overnight trips and comfortable for even more on day trips.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) n/a
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any n/a, bought from private party on Craigslist.
Other comments The H34 is a lot of boat for the money when compared to other plastic boats of similar age and size. This one had decent care and maintenance over the 32 years before we became her 3rd owner. Were looking forward to sailing her for many years to come
