Review of the Hunter 34 by Jamie Nicoll

Year built 1986
Location of boat Halifax, Nova Scotia
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Probably as it represents good value for size.
Gear that's been added Took so much gear off the boat that I gained six inches of waterline
Structural or complex improvements Replacing cabin sole, replaced motor, still poor after those two.
The boat's best features Very comfortable to cruise on
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. very tender to sail, plumbing and wiring are poorly done, leaks are plentiful
Sailing characterisitcs Digs in in a constant wind and performs admirably. Poor downwind handling. Works well as a single handed sailor
Motoring characterisitcs Yanmar 3YM30 is tremendous with a 3 bladed prop
Liveability Comfy for a family of 4
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No experience
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought direct from fla and shipped to canada
Other comments Good value, solid construction. defineable faults
