Review of the Hunter 23 by ray van heel

Liveaboard? No  
Owner bought the boat in 2008  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes! good quality construction ,spars!  
Gear that's been added added genoa (cat -22 ), j 24 spinnaker, new sheets,halyards,new main sail.  
Structural or complex improvements yes! I moved the headstay to the bow , it can be done by welding the nuts to the backplate of the headstay tang and making a golfball size hole inside the chain locker , then reseal the hole with fiberglass(can't see the patch in the chain locker!) this improved pointing ability and reduced the weatherhelm , also I had to put a bolt through the rudder housing to stop the rudder from kicking up ! this also stop the weatherhelm!  
The boat's best features very solid feel, roomy comfortable bench seat style (angled) seating, internal halyards no nonsense interior.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. retrieving the boat ! I am installing guides on the trailer, boat balance on the trailer! axel needs to go back another foot to compensate for the motor ,battery and highway towing.  
Sailing characterisitcs so far the speeds are up to specs, thats good! not to thrilled about the tenderness of the heeling sensation due to the short wing keel.  
Motoring characterisitcs nissan 5hp moves it right along , but need to convert it to a remote gas tank for my trips to catalina island.  
Liveability good for two on a weekend.

Other comments yes! if the racing side of me doesn't like the the performance on the race course, I will unbolt the wing keel and convert it to a daggerboard!! the trailer is set up for at least 2 feet , a 33foot mast is in place, the rest of the modifications are done!!
