Review of the Hunter 30_88-94 by Vince Blue

Year built 1993
Location of boat New Bern, NC
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1996
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, what a great starter boat. It's just the right size to get into weekend crusing.
Gear that's been added Just some simple comforts, Air Conditioning, ice-box refridgeration, and a battery charger.
Structural or complex improvements Yes, we had to redo the drain from the ice-box. It now has its own sump pump. Added a lot of sound-proofing materials. The refridgeration and battery charger make too much noise for my wife to sleep on the boat.
The boat's best features Sails great and is simple to maintain.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Some leaks, but I think I've found them all.
Sailing characterisitcs Handles well at all points of sail and is great to single hand.
Motoring characterisitcs I had some problems with the idle settings on the engine.
Liveability
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Yes, I've replaced a few small parts on the boat and they have been very helpfull. I was surprised they had copies of the boat manual.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any It wasn't positive. I had to find a good marine contractor to redo all the setup of the boat My next boat will most likely be new and I would like to have it shipped directly to me.
