Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, definitely. We lived aboard and cruised for six weeks in the Chesapeake and found the boat to be very comfortable and a joy to sail and motor. We had our 11 yr old daughter and lots of visitors and really valued the room.
Gear that's been added It came very well equipped (battery charger, lazy jacks, full batten main, stereo, etc. etc. A couple of add-ons that we really like are (4) cabin fans, cabin curtains, and cockpit cushions, wheel brake, loran, etc. We bought a cruising spinnaker which is a lot of fun and cuts down on motoring in light wind.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features We like the walk through transom and swim platform. The design of the cabin is very good. We chartered a Beneteau 35 in the Bahamas and although it had more room it was not as cleverly laid out or as comfortable as our Hunter 93 30T. The cabin looks and feels
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The Hood Roller Furling is not the greatest. And we have trouble getting enough tension on the forestay.Bigger tanks would be nice. An outdoor shower like on the newer models would have been an improvement. We may add one. We're getting a crack where the keel joins the hull. One of the lexan windows has cracked over the winter (but why? We don't know.)
Sailing characterisitcs She sails well and comfortably but is no America's Cup contender.
Motoring characterisitcs She seems to be a bit underpowered. May not be able to reach hull speed against strong wind and waves. The wind catches it when backing out of our slip (in a cross wind) and makes it hard to control in reverse. This has led to some dicey moments but no damage (yet). We might try a three bladed prop as others have suggested.
Liveability Great! For us. We spend several days a week on the boat in the summer. Many days we just drift and swim, etc. We have cookouts and just lounge around when there is no wind--and it is roomy and comfortable. We have a large bimini and windshield which adds to the comfort but detracts from the sailing, but since we are not racing we don't mind too much.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) We have called the infor line a couple of times and gotten helpful responses.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any We bought the boat used and the dealer--Gratitutde Yachting Center--was excellent. They gave us a good price and were helpful to us in lots of little things.
