Owner bought the boat in Used
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely. 30T is perfect for wife and me. Plan to keep it a long time.
Gear that's been added 1. Pedestal guard. 2. Strainer in raw water supply to toilet.3. Transom grab rails to ease boarding from dingy (purchased from Hunter).4. Replaced metal cabin dome lights with plastic fixtures (purchased from Hunter).5. Window curtains.6. Removable/sliding icebox shelf.7. Stereo radio with speakers in cabin and cockpit.8. Marine radio.
Structural or complex improvements 1. Harken roller furler with 130 jib.2. Autohelm wheeldrive autopilot (ST3000).3. Additional electrical panel over nav station.4. Engine water temperature and oil pressure gauges.5. Fresh water and holding tank gauges.
The boat's best features 1. Storage is wonderful. Every void seems to have been engineered into a locker.2. Large stern berth.3. Lots of hatches for light and air.4. Dry bilge.5. Access to knotmeter impeller is outstanding.6. Interior design and furnishings are modern, nautical and look like a boat.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. 1. Biggest problem was sticking mainsail slides both up and down. Replaced with 3/4
Sailing characterisitcs Boat sails well and is easily handled by my wife and me. We are both retired
Motoring characterisitcs Yanmar 2GM20F runs great and gives 6.5 kts at 2750 rpm. Never misses a beat and uses only about 2/3 gal/hr. Burns about 10oz oil every 20 hours so religiously check dip stick level. Only major problem was fouling of U-Mixing Exhaust Elbow which required replacement.
Liveability Great for two people. We regularly stay aboard for 3-4 days at a time and make annual two week trip to Catalina Island each summer. Very comfortable. Lots of storage and large icebox make living aboard very comfortable. However, larger fresh water and holding tanks would be helpful.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Several phone calls to Director of Customer Satisfaction (Dave Flemings) brought very prompt, thorough and efficient replies. Purchased several items by phone from Hunter Parts Dept and they were very helpful and prompt. (Ask for Mike Thomas). Hunter conducts factory tours which I plan in Apr '99. Attended a Hunter Regatta in '98 where factory representative vigorously encouraged owners to contact them by phone or e-mail. I am sure he was sincere. Hunter is the best boat manufacturer I have had experience with.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought from a previous private owner.
