Review of the Hunter 30_74-83 by Bill

Owner bought the boat in 96  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, it is a stable boat that has performed well in rough weather, as well as a relatively comfortable boat for week end living and month long cruises.  
Gear that's been added battery charger, GFI for a.c. plugs, slab reefing,rope clutches, swimming ladder treads, deck drains for aft decks to prevent standing water, anchor sprit and second anchor  
Structural or complex improvements replaced 1gm with 2gm engine  
The boat's best features very comfortable v berth, handles well in most winds with full batten main.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. cabinet trim at corner of sink and ladder keeps being stepped on and breaks. standing water at aft quarters on main deck. cockpit seats too shallow and uncomfortable.  
Sailing characterisitcs In light of our limited experience the 30 is an excellent sailing boat. We seem to fare well against the others of our size. During a storm in the Gulf Stream downwind handling was exxcellent. Into the wind was quite a ride however.  
Motoring characterisitcs with the 2gm,our max cruise of 2800-3000 rpm 5.5-6 kts , at 2 hrs/gal. at 2600 normal cruise 2.25 hours/gal.  
Liveability v berth great, salon o.k., cockpit not very comfortable (needs cushions), quarter berth serves as garage, Kerry claims just on more deep storage cabinet would be handy! some great meals have come off the pressure alcohol stove. folding table is great, with table up we have more room than some larger boats.
