Review of the Hunter 30_74-83 by Ray Beasley

Year built 1981
Location of boat New Bern, NC
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1994
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, It is a good coastal boat, a fast, fun boat. Easy to single-hand.
Gear that's been added I added GPS, normal cruising equipment.
Structural or complex improvements I added dockside water input and changed the H/W heater.
The boat's best features Fast, fun club racer and cruising boat. Could be used as either platform.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I didn't have any major breakage in the 2 years I owned it.
Sailing characterisitcs I liked the way it sailed, both in light and heavy air. I have been as fast as 10.5 knots( heavy air) surfing downwind wing and wing.
Motoring characterisitcs I had the 2GM 13 Yanmar in my boat, and it was okay except in 3-6 ft seas. Too small HP engine then.
Liveability I lived onboard this boat for 1 1/2 yrs. I have since moved up to a 37, only because of space. I had plenty of storage etc. but it could use more water storage for week long cruising.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Yes, good service.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Private owner sale.
