Review of the Hunter 27_75-84 by Lyn

Year built 1982
Location of boat Dighton, MA -Mount Hope/Narragansett Bay
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes I would !!!! Great boat had alot of fun with. Purchased in great shape had very little problems other than routine maintenance.
Gear that's been added New halyards with additional blocks. CD player w'remote, extra battery, small 12v electrical panel, new depth sounder. Definitely could use a roller furling and an anchor roller.
Structural or complex improvements No, no great need to. Some new floor boards and forward shelfing, nothing major.
The boat's best features Roominess. Wheel steering, reliable YANMAR, double privacy doors in head, opening ports are nice too.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Opening ports cracking, knobs breaking, hatches cracked and breaking
Sailing characterisitcs A variety of winds and waves. 10-15 usually 2-3 footers. Annual trips to Martha's Vineyard in 15+ with seas range between 3-8. Boat handles very well even though weather reports always underestimate seas.
Motoring characterisitcs Reliable, economical, trouble free little engine. Has beat into 5+ seas in 18+ winds 11 hours straight on 3 gallons of fuel. Some say underpowered, I say she's fine. If you want more speed buy a powerboat!
Liveability Slept 4 adults on a rainy night in Cuttyhunk with a fair amount of comfort. Problem is, we ladies pack too much stuff and beer takes up to much space! Very capable of an extended weekend or overnights comfortably.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Called them once not very hepful. More feedback from this site.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any No dealer private sale.
Other comments Love my Hunter. To hell with the skeptics. My boat has been well worth the time and money I have invested into it. Always find myself looking at Hunter's more than any others. Hate to part with her but suffering from the gotta go bigger syndrome.
