Review of the Hunter 30_74-83 by Jeff Wright

Year built 1981
Location of boat Northport N.Y
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I might have waited till I sold my existing boat, but the boat is a joy.
Gear that's been added clutches,new head,bimini,binacle table,new bilge pump,
Structural or complex improvements barrier coat, hooked up the waste storage as was being directly discharged by previous owner.
The boat's best features TEAK, easy to sail, good looking , inexpensive vs other comperable year/size boats
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. 110 volt main breaker trips , alcohol stove retrofitted to propane doesn't work, mast step rusts should have been stainless steel or composite. Salon table legs stick to floor making removal difficult. Hull had a fair amont of pretty large blisters when I purchased, corrected with Epoxy and barrier coat
Sailing characterisitcs sails well,
Motoring characterisitcs motor smokes at low RPM, generator loosens up ruining belts, difficult backing boat up as stern will tend to port, and cannot be corrected.
Liveability I would live it on if pushed, kids like it, wife would get sea sick. nicely appointed
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) very accomodating
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Coneys marine in Huntington were a pleasure to deal with and maintain my boat in the Winter
