Review of the Hunter 34 by James

Year built 1984
Location of boat Punta Gorda Florida
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, it is perfect for our needs and sails absolutely effortlessly.
Gear that's been added I added a Garmin 198 GPS
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features I like that the lines lead to the cockpit so that I can sail solo or with people who can't do anything but sit.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I can't figure out how water gets into the bilge. Although it's almost always dry, sometimes I see water in the little bilge area after sailing or motoring.
Sailing characterisitcs It sails great in winds up to 30 knots. After 30 the weather helm is a killer until I reef.
Motoring characterisitcs I wish ther were a little more h.p. The 20 h.p. Yanmar seems a little weak.
Liveability It's a good boat for a small family or people who don't mind living very close. Only one head makes more than a few staying aboard too much.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I haven't had to call Hunter at all.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought from a broker. They took care of everything. Really good experience.
