Review of the Hunter 23 by Jeff Russell

Year built 1987
Location of boat Jacksonville, NC
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2006
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes! It is a wonderful first boat for me. Everyone I meet at my yatch club loves the boat and tell me how wonderful it is and what a value it is!
Gear that's been added Pervious owner added depth, knot meter, compass, shore power, latern, and a tiller tamer. I added GPS, jib bag, solar fan, some cleats, and a grill. Also solar recharging system.
Structural or complex improvements not yet
The boat's best features ease of use. Point well. Handles great. None complicated rigging.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Mast steeping was not fun so I desided to get a slip for her. No cleats on her! I had to add some for ease of use. It did have clam cleats for jib and main. rudder and tiller were loose had to add washers. Mast seems to sit to low for bemi top.
Sailing characterisitcs Point well. Handle well at up to 35 degrees tilt so far although seems faster when level. Heads down wind Wonderfully!!
Motoring characterisitcs Motors above average I feel. No problem getting into slip backwards at all! Alot easier than any of the other sailboats I have sailed on.
Liveability Very good for a weekender. Lack of shower and just a porti potty would make it harder for any longer athough not impossible. Lots of room for a 23! set up nicely!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) havent dealt with them yet although I need to soon
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
