Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Definitely Yes. We had been sailing Hobicats for years but were looking for a more comfortable way to sail. We were impressed with the condition of the interior of this boat. Down below is like new. The alcohol stove looked like it had never been used. It is also very nice looking with lots of pretty wood. We have spent many weekends on this boat over the 4 years we have owned it. It came well equiped with a 1999 Yamaha 9.9 four stroke outboard motor, two good sails, a forestay jib bag, self-tailing winches, AM-FM stereo radio and a CB radio. It sails very well and will thrill anybody who loves sailing. I loved all the storage space and the pop top. Also it has four opening ports with screens, a screen door, a snap-on hatch screen and a screen surround for the pop top. Newer boats rarely have opening windows. Lastly, it was a very inexpensive way to upgrade our sailing experience.
Gear that's been added We have recently added a bimini and refinished all the exterior wood including the wood door. We have added a plexiglass companionway door for bad weather light.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Lots of wood, lots of storage, excellent sailing as well as a great place to relax when tied up at the dock or anchored out, plenty of cockpit room.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. We broke a traveler car for the main and had a problem replacing it. We fabricated one and then were able to adapt another part to work. This was the result of manufacturers including Hunter no longer making boats with 1" traveler tracks!
Sailing characterisitcs This boat points well even though it is beamy. Its equipment is arranged so that one person can sail it easily.
Motoring characterisitcs
Liveability As I said before, this boat is very liveable.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Haven't dealt with Hunter except when trying to locate a traveler. They sent us to the manufacturer who no longer made ours who then sent us to the company they sold their stock to who was out!
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
