Review of the Hunter 41DS by Garrett Rampulla

Year built 2006
Location of boat San Deigo, CA
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? Yes
Owner bought the boat in 2006
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? YES!!
Gear that's been added Only thing being added is a full enclosure and we will most likely replace our combo nylon rode and chain with all cahin.
Structural or complex improvements None so far.
The boat's best features Since we are a live aboard, the space. There are two of us plus a cat and a dog (golden). We have plenty of space and plenty of room for everyone. Next I woul have to say is the sailing performance. Even with our boat loaded down with all our live aboard gear the boat still attains 7.5 knots in 10-15 knots of winds. Very easy to sail and accelerates quickly.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The pop locks on the cabinets.
Sailing characterisitcs Routinely get 7.5kts with 10-15 knots of wind and our boat is loaded with live aboard gear, ie all our personal gear. Sails very easy and a very light helm.
Motoring characterisitcs Motoring is great except in reverse ( like most sailboats)
Liveability GREAT
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Haven't dealt with hunter yet, but Tidewater in Annapolis, where we bought the boat , has been great from the buying experince to the post commissioning experience. They have always provided excellent service. Thanks again Jarrett and Paul.
