Review of the Hunter 30_88-94 by Norm Baylis

Year built 1992
Location of boat Marblehead, MA 01945
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1993
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? No, I could have afforded the Hunter Legend 35.5 and that is still a good looking boat. I have a copy of the Bermuda racing with Peter Isler and there is one of the 35.5's from that series in our harbor
Gear that's been added 2nd winch, new Uniden 525 VHF, all new ST60 + instruments, C80 color radar, Graphic, Tridata, WindGarmin 2006 Chart Plotter, Doger, Bimini, Bruce Anchor, manual bilge pump, better head pump, packless sealing system, boarding gate, hard shell Lifesling, Crusing Spinneker, FM radio, gas grill
Structural or complex improvements Memories got hit by a wave runner last July 23rd and will go back in the water next week, $45,000 damage hit and run. Hit was on port side at the electronics station moveved the head wall 5". Impact was right at the vhf radio.
The boat's best features It has a lot of room for a 30 footer andI have kept it well maintained people still ask if it is a new boat.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I keep everything working, the head still has the original seals in the head. I keep cooking oil to lubricate and put white vinegar in to get rid of the uric acid crytals. Changed the head completey.
Sailing characterisitcs Under full sail Memories will round up, rather than continually heal. It sails well under 1st and secon reef.
Motoring characterisitcs Clean bottom 6.8 knots
Liveability 3 people for 9 days is pushing it.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Always good advice and quick turn around
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Seacoast Marine, Don Peacock is still a friend. When the boat got hit last year I went to him for his oppinion and he gave me good advice. I din't want to loose it and Don convinced me I could save it and I did. It has been fully repaired at F. J. Dion's in Salem, MA. It spent the winter inside next to Hinckley's. I think it was very proud.
Other comments I can't wait to get it back in the water.
