Review of the Hunter 25.5 by Bjarne Berg

Year built 1984
Location of boat Lake Norman
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 6
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes
Gear that's been added New stripes (Orange had to go), new seat cushions, new rolling furling (180 sq.ft), all new rigging, new knot meter,
Structural or complex improvements none
The boat's best features Nice family cruiser with sleep over room for 5 adults and one kid, head, two plate burner, private front cabin and easy maintenaice. This is the best way I have spent money ever (it is cheap)...
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. none
Sailing characterisitcs Top sailing speed has been 7.1 knots (that is not a 'safe' speed, so more than 6 takes some real effort). However, the boat cruises nicely in the 4-5 range. Very easy to handle and the relatively large rudder helps.
Motoring characterisitcs have 7.5 hp 4-stroke honda that is quiet and runs on fumes... That gives about 5.5 knot max motor speed..
Liveability For the size, you will have a hard time finding anything better. Every inch is used and storage is OK. I am 6'4" so the ability to lift the top of the boat 4-5" is a great feature (it also keeps it cool in the summer).
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments Great starter boat that will save your marriage during docking periods.
