Review of the Hunter 34 by Barry Ownby

Year built 1985
Location of boat Knoxville, TN
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Racing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I would buy it again. My last boat was Catalina 30 (great boat) but was getting too small. The H34 has plenty of room and is quick. We race and sail the Tennessee River and the H34 is about a big as I would care to have in this location.
Gear that's been added Radio and speakers need replaced. Added a roller furler from Plastimo and adjustable fairleads from Garhaur.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Quick and easy to handle also very roomy.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Battery location is inexcessable, my big belly will not pass through the small opening.
Sailing characterisitcs Handles very well in 12 MPH winds fair up to 18 MPH then you best be reefing or its a rodeo.
Motoring characterisitcs It will reach hull speed at about 80% throttle and enough power to get rudder control exiting the slip in a beam wind.
Liveability good
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) One email request provided the data I had requested, there have been no other contacts on my part.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
