Review of the Hunter 27 by Jorge Bermudez

Year built 2004
Location of boat Colonial Beach, VA
The boat is sailed on Rivers
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? No. After the initial excitement of buying my first boat I wish I had looked at other Hunters at the dock prior to commiting to this one.
Gear that's been added None
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features Roomy interior. Responsive boat, fast.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Had the Mainsheet rap around the throttle control and rip it off. It appears that the Battery Charger has failed, woke up one morning to a dead battery after average use on shore power. Storage space in the cockpit is very limited. Electrical system: Only one battery bank with an 80 amp battery. Refrigeration System: DC powered cooler which is very poor plus with an 80 amp battery capacity and a 5 amp draw does not go well together. Took the cooler out and now using ice.
Sailing characterisitcs Very responsive in 10-15 KTS wind
Motoring characterisitcs Very responsive, easy backing.
Liveability Very comfortable for sleepovers for 2. Butane/electric two burner stove. Would have preferred a propane stove.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) N/A
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Dealer did not offer to show other boats, they wanted to get rid of this one, or so it appears.
