Review of the Hunter 33_77-83 by Marvin

Owner bought the boat in 2002  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? 100%. I bought "Oliver" as a project boat and it has turned-out to be one of the best decisions ever. It was not more than a floating hull when purchased and I have spent countless hours reworking the fiberglass, wiring, wood, engine, canvas and plumbing. So much better than sitting on the couch. Now my wife and have a beautifully restored sailboat for under $15K.  
Gear that's been added Just about everything from high (anchor light and windspeed indicator) and low (thruhulls and speedometer).  
Structural or complex improvements Reworking cabinetry on starboard settee to make a large couch instead of two unused pilot berths. Rebuilt areas with cracked gelcoat. All new thru-hulls, plumbing and exhaust.  
The boat's best features The Hunterowners.com forum was always especially useful tool. I always praise the boat itself, but the large network of other owners has proven very useful in restoring the boat.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The only real "issue" I have is the water build-up on the stern toe-rails. More of a nuisance than a problem. In fact, someone else already posted a complete fix with photos in the photo forum. The only other issues I had were from the prior owner's lack of maintenance.  
Sailing characterisitcs Very sturdy. Points just as well into the wind as the 34' C&C I used to sail. I think the top speed of 6.5 knots is fairly good for a sloop. Though we usually cruise at 4.5 knots in winds that are 8-15 mph.  
Motoring characterisitcs The 2 blade prop on the 15 hp yanmar is insufficient in moderate weather. I will definitely try the 3 blade during this year's haul-out. Maybe an repower at some point in the future if I happen upon a used engine.  
Liveability A bit cramped for living. After all it was designed in the 70s with the rest of the low-profile boats. Just enough headroom for me (6'2") throughout. Plenty of light through the many portlights to keep the interior bright.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) NA  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Watch out for used boat dealers that do not also market new boats. My experience is that they are proficient liars.  
Other comments Top-notch.
