Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely. The Hunter 34 is a beautiful well designed boat that is a pleasure to sail and be upon. I bought it from the original owner who had taken very good care of it. I had been out of sailing for almost 15 years and so it was a very good boat to get back into. My only critism was that it was damn difficult and expensive to get A/C into it but we did and it works perfectly, albeit a little noisy for my tastes. Also, this boat looks like a real sailboat on the outside. I am not happy with the appearance of Hunters that are built in the 90's and newer. They looked stripped down to me.
Gear that's been added The only thing major we've added is A/C. We fit it under the chart table, rendering it useless for charting but a handy place to place the DVD/TV! The former owner added an autohelm.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features It sails wonderfully and is roomy below for its size.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing.
Sailing characterisitcs Terrific.
Motoring characterisitcs
Liveability Very liveable. Good headroom, nice galley and the "split" head with vanity across a short "hallway" to the V-berth from the head/shower works great. Also gives a little more privacy for the V-berth.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I had to replace a life-line stantion once and it was immediately available and shipped next day. Very helpful.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Good experience.
