Review of the Hunter 34 by Admiral Harris

Year built 1983
Location of boat Chesapeake
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely.
Gear that's been added Refrigerated the ice box w/ dorm cube.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Generous cabin. Large sweet spot in trim, forgiving handling.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Everything is as advertised. We eliminated some head odor by running a gallon of white vinegar through the system. Bilge odor is minimized with a little oxygen bleach from time to time. Rigging and mechanicals are great.
Sailing characterisitcs Jib must go away during gusty conditions! Otherwise, incredibly easy to sail. One of the best characteristics is being able to confidently turn the helm over to novice visitors in steady wind. It gives them a deceptively wonderful introduction to sailing.
Motoring characterisitcs Steady and unremarkable.
Liveability Excellent for two, great daysailing for up to ten.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) n/a
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Excellent. Our broker steered us away from some potential problem ships into a real gem.
