Review of the Hunter 29.5 by John Sramek

Year built 1994
Location of boat Punta Gorda, FL
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Racing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes
Gear that's been added No, came fully loaded
Structural or complex improvements Only engine alinemant which was critical to stopping serious vibration and noise problems.
The boat's best features Large open cockpit.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The rudder is too small and will not keep the boat from rounding up in a strong breeze.
Sailing characterisitcs Rounding up in a strong breeze.
Motoring characterisitcs Initially alinement was off and there was a loud noise at 1600 rpm. Alinement corrected the problem. Motors fine now.
Liveability Good for 2 people, but could use more storage.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments This is my second Hunter. The first was a 30T which sails better and is more liveable. This one is better for partying.
