How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, but I might have gone for the 420 for the improved head room in the stern berth.

Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features The boat is extremely comfortable and well laid out. We spend about 50% of the summer on the boat from May through early October. Most stays are 7-10 days. We would really like larger holding tanks. We normally get about 8 days of use before pump out is needed.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Some minor gel coat issues, one of the freezer latches wasn't closing properly and we had a lot of freezer frost problems. The dealer didn't help, but I figured it out after 2 seasons. The factory sent new latches and all is well, now. I have problems with the 20A boat breaker in the stern lazerette tripping during winter heating with West Marine heaters. Would like 30A breaker. Am now investigating this. Hunter doesn't provide any privacy curtains for the aft stateroom. We ended up using spring rods and ready made curtains from Pennys. Ours was one of the first with a "finished teak" interior. Some of the areas were not up to the quality expected, cerainly a step below Beneteau.
Sailing characterisitcs We usually have gusty sailing conditions with gusts in the 30-45 knot range. The furling main and jib setup really helps in these conditions. The boat sails fine in winds above 8 knots. For winds down to 3 knots, we use our asymmetrical spinnaker. Boat speed under sail can be up to 9 knots steady and under power 8 knots (59 HP Yanmar turbodiesel). We have found that reducing mainsail early in heavy winds increases boat speed more than in other boats. Out 9+ knot sail speed typically occurs with 25-30 knot winds with 1/2 main and 3/4 jib.
Motoring characterisitcs The Yanmar provides plenty of power. As noted above, it is capable of driving the boat at 8 knots for cruising. We just had one overheating problem when our cooling water pump impeller was partially damaged and we tended to overheat at RPMs above 2000.
Liveability Great. We have all the comforts of home. As mentioned earlier, the only wish I have is for more head room in the aft stateroom. The 420 would have provided that. The battery powered starters for the stove/oven are a joke. We use butane lighters.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Hunter has been quite good with most issues. We had a problem with the Hunter supplied bimini and they stood behind it with no hassle.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any We bought the boat from a SF dealer, Cruising Specialists. It was not a great exprience. They had a problem with my marina owner and refused to pay a $1000 fee. I was stuck paying it. They also messed up warranty replacements of some floor boards and batteries. At the end, they refused to return my phone calls and ignored my messages.
Other comments Love it!
