Review of the Hunter 306 by David Peters

Year built 2004
Location of boat Maryland
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, but I might take a closer look at the Hunter 33
Gear that's been added GPS
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Easy to use, no probelm for me and my wife to handle. Open transom, great for easy access for swimming and getting off.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Had problems with the sealed windows in the main salon leaking when I first purchased the boat.
Sailing characterisitcs I wish it had a larger head sail. In light winds I really feel that I'm under sailed. Although in heavy wind it handles great. I guess that's the trade off, but if it had a larger head sail you could shorten it.
Motoring characterisitcs No problems
Liveability Great for two, and works good for 4 people. Any more and overnights would be unconfortable.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Great except getting the check-list items taken care of took a lot longer than I thought.
