Review of the Hunter 27_75-84 by Tom Thayer

Year built 1982
Location of boat Bowles Harbor, Monroe, Mi. Lake Erie
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1996
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, great vlaue for the money. Good cabin layout.Very stable, hardly ever have to reef.
Gear that's been added Roller furling, 150 genoa, GPS, new Par head, new fully battened main.
Structural or complex improvements No, just patched small gel coat cracks. Need to replace several prots due to broken lock downs.
The boat's best features Stiffness, shallow draft, cabin layout, value.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Port windows broken at lock downs, Hatches leak, leaks around toe rail bolts.
Sailing characterisitcs I solo most of the time. Boat is very stable compared to my Hunter 23.5. I would be comfortable in most any seas.
Motoring characterisitcs Mostly just noise and vibration from the diesel. Power seams adequate though would be nicer to have more speed.
Liveability Very comfortable. Good head layou. Would like shower. Deeper bilge would be an improvement.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Sent me new decals at no charge. Were very helpful with redder problems when I bought my 23.5 Hunter new in 1995. Were very nice when I tured the factory in Florida. Recomend it to all.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Dealer no longer in business but Sailboats of Toledo was great when the were.
