Review of the Hunter 30_88-94 by Dan Schardein

Normal wind strength 10-15 knots

Liveaboard? No  
Owner bought the boat in 2002  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes Preferred a new a new one, but it's a nice boat at an affordable price. Great first sail boat.  
Gear that's been added 1-Anchor roller. 2-Upgraded shore power w/ss Marinco inlet at stern. 3-Upgraded battery charger. 4-New bimini. Plan to install hour meter and DC volt/amp meters.  
Structural or complex improvements 1-Traveler was loose and had damaged the deck piers. Reinforced with fiberglass and replaced washers w/backer plates. 2-Port side stanchions loose and leaking. Replaced screws that thread into imbedded plate in deck with through bolts and backer plates. This requires that you cut an access hole through the inner liner at each location. Caution! (The stanchion by the head is directly over the incoming shore power and other wires. Be very careful when cutting the access hole and when drilling out the deck holes or your next project will be upgrading your shore power. See above added gear. Need I say more!)  
The boat's best features A sound boat at an affordable price. We just purchased the boat in Sept. 2002 and have done very limited sailing thusfar.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing more than expected of a 14 year old boat. Topside leaks mainly through stanchions and other deck hardware.  
Sailing characterisitcs Sails very well. Sea trial was in 25+ wind and was not overpowered with full sails. As stated we have limited experience with the boat thusfar and will revise comments at the end of the season.  
Motoring characterisitcs Responds well. Adequate power.  
Liveability Plenty of room for two and reasonably comfortable. Would like upgraded galley equipment, but functions. No AC.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Have called them several times and they were always responsive.  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Purchased from Norton's Yacht Sales in Deltaville Va. and I am very satisfied with the service received. They are nice people with a good reputation.
