Review of the Hunter 26 by van der Pas

Year built 1994
Location of boat Friesland, the Netherlands
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in rent
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? No way, it sails like a turned-over up-side down caravan with added sails. I don't understand why anyone remarks that it sails high upwind. Compared with other even sized yachts it is the slowest I ever sailed on. It's interior is large, but the concept makes it very unpractical to get on and of the boat, no storage possibilaties. The table is large, yes but why does anyone built a yacht with four beds and a table for eigth? The tohatsu 8hp is not suited for a 'large' boat like the h26.
Gear that's been added
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features living space
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Tohatsu 8hp: not enough power. a 9.9 would be better.the rodder came up a couple of times.
Sailing characterisitcs slow, not well tought over.
Motoring characterisitcs even worse
Liveability good
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
