Review of the Hunter 30_88-94 by Douglas Miller

Year built 1989
Location of boat Kerr Lake, NC
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes I would! Though I have learned since that a survey is not always what you might think it should be.
Gear that's been added I have added an WP30 Simran auto pilot, a lazy jack system from ezjax and purchased an inflatible
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Lots of room for a 30 foot boat, easy to sail single handed.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I have a "topside" leak somewhere that I get water in the bilge during heavy rains. If it doesn't rain - the bilge stays dry. There is not any evidence of a leak and I have no idea how to locate it.
Sailing characterisitcs For an older Hunter, I routinely can sail faster than some friends that sail a 1998 H340, a 1994 H30T and a 2002 H326. She is a bit tender when the winds increase above 12 kts but reefing controls that
Motoring characterisitcs I tend to motor at 2800rpm - which moves me at 6 kts - when the hull is clean. The 2GM20F performs great
Liveability I could probably live on this boat but it gets small quick when others come aboard
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Have dealt with Hunter through tech support and have found them helpfull
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Purchased from a broker. The broker had less to do with the deal since the owner contactedme directly to finalize the sale. The broker made his commission but wasn't a lot of help.
