Review of the Hunter 34 by Wayne Ford

Year built 1984
Location of boat San Diego
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes, but this boat sails slower than my previous boat of the same length. Much more comfortable though, inside and out.
Gear that's been added no. Have removed unnecessary gear such as Loran and outdated old satnav.
Structural or complex improvements Added a permanent shelf in corner of main salon for wife's TV
The boat's best features Aft cabin for guests and aft water tank.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Water tank under the settee leaks and has ruined the teak & holly sole in that area.
Sailing characterisitcs Winds at 15 to 20 require reefing to the 3rd reef to keep the boat at a decent level of comfort for all. This is definitely a tender boat!!
Motoring characterisitcs Motors well but, must keepgood control of the wheel as it tends to drift off.
Liveability We love the livability with the refrigeration, hot water, double sink, shower, and lots of light. We replaced the wooden hatch boards at the entrance with lightly smoked acrylic ones that admit more light.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Very helpful
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Good experience with a broker
