Review of the Hunter 30_74-83 by Gary Jordan

Year built 1978
Location of boat Lake Ontario (Sodus Bay)
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? We would have looked for a bit bigger Hunter maybe a bit newer.
Gear that's been added Roller furling
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Stable, fast and great for our first sail boat to learn on.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I have water in the bilge often and I have no idea where it is coming from.
Sailing characterisitcs We are rookies so not sure what type characteristics I could compare to. I do get weather helm on close hauls, where I need to really hold her back from turning up.
Motoring characterisitcs Smooth, but noisy. Can't wait to turn off the engine. But the 12 ponies under the hood move us along.
Liveability Nice for 2 people. Good layout, but would like a bit larger.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments All and all a nice boat, a good learning boat for the two of us. We hope to retire on a boat someday.
