Review of the Hunter 26.5 by Gary J. Lopez

Year built 1988
Location of boat Carlyle Lake IL.
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I've owned 8 sailboats in the last 5 years and this is the best all around boat, yet!
Gear that's been added I added a boom vang off the stern rail, to tilt the motor( made standing on your head, a one handed job) I also added a Bimini.
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features I love the walkout transom and ease of handling, the boat almost steers it's self! I also like the way the interior is layed out, very roomy.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The boom could have been mounted 6" higher and 6' headroom would be nice!
Sailing characterisitcs Boat moves well with just the slightest of wind, but still seems manageable in a blow!
Motoring characterisitcs I've motored very little, but the 9.9 Nissan does a fine job.
Liveability Daysail only!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Good Tech support!
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments The 26.5 is probably one of the most under rated boats of all the Hunter line, What a shame! Best bang for your buck!
