Review of the Hunter 30_88-94 by Freddy Ortega

Year built 1990
Location of boat Boqueron, Puerto Rico
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1995
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I most certainly would.
Gear that's been added New sails, running rigging.
Structural or complex improvements None, I hav'nt had any need for it. I have only replaced the sails and running rigging.
The boat's best features The finish. I have a friend that bought a 2001 Beneteau and I fell in love with my Hunter again. There is just no comparison. The finish in the interior is incredibly better in the Hunter. After 12 years my boat looks a lot better the the new beneteau.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I'll be honest, everything works! Except for the Hood Furler, but I can't blame Hunter Marine.
Sailing characterisitcs Most of the time, because of the small forward triangle I seldom need more than the main and a small working jib. I bought a 135 genoa that I hav't had the opportunity to use.
Motoring characterisitcs Excellent, this is my second Yanmar and I'm very happy with it. I get about 6.5kt at 3500RPM.
Liveability For this size boat, everyone at the club envy me.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Grat!
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any None, sorry.
Other comments Yes, when I can affort buying a new model I would avoid the Hood as a furler.
