Review of the Hunter 35.5 by gene thompson

Year built 1992
Location of boat Sandusky oh
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Not sure. Too soon to tell.
Gear that's been added Not yet.
Structural or complex improvements Haven't seen a need to yet.
The boat's best features We like the salon and galley design. It's pretty comfortable down there.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The only real problem so far has been with the holding tank It's too small and is poorly vented. That will be the first improvement we will make. Plan to go with a 30 to 35 plastic tank.
Sailing characterisitcs We've been out in some pretty choppy stuff. The boat seemed very stable.
Motoring characterisitcs It took a little while to get used to docking as it has a much larger turning radius than our old Hunter 31' had.
Liveability Seems pretty good for two people. We would like to take a trip out of lake Erie and head down through the New York Canal system to the intercoastal. But we plan to take it for some significant test drives next summer before committing to a trip of that length.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Nope
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments We like the looks of it better than the newer models. Also, it could have had about 10" less swim platform and 10" more space around the wheel.
