Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? The 310 is a great single handed sail boat, the inmast sail makes it very easy to sail single handed. The only things I would change, which hunter changed with the 320, the fuse panel is under an opening port, the forsail lines catch on one of the blocks on the mast and the cockpit locker is not sealed to the inside of the boat. I had a knock down last summer and filled the cockpit with water, after all the water drained out of the cockpit and I was able to relax, I went into the cockpit locker to get out a line and noticed it was half full of water, after I removed the gear and bailed out the water, my partner told me the bed was really wet and some water was still dripping down from the ceiling, which is under the locker. Lastly I would have insisted that the dealer install a full traveller, trying to buy one after has turn out to be a real pain.
Gear that's been added I added an espar heater, dodger/bimi, radar. The boat came loaded with all the extra's ie: autohelm, depth/speed in mast furling ect..
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features We really enjoy the openness of the interior and the large cockpit. It has lots of windows and ports, which is the main reason we bought the Hunter.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. We had some problems with the electrical wiring, a few of the connects broke or came loss, bad workmanship, but the Hunter dealer fixed them quickly, the day after the shack down. Hunter sent replacement light fixtures ( was melted ) and a new micro wave N/C within one week of our call, they were great, just asked us to send back the broken pieces to them collect. Lately when I start the motor the autohelm goes off about 12 degrees, strange, still looking for someone to fix that...
Sailing characterisitcs I am new to sailing, but have found the 310 does not like sailing upwind on the starboard tack.
Motoring characterisitcs Handles great under power. no complaints
Liveability very roomy for four adults, lots of space.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Very good, great help and quick service on warrenty. ( even when I did the repairs )
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Dealer was very helpful, the only thing is he talked us out of a traveller. But helped with everything, even things that were not part of the normal service.
Other comments Great boat. It is nice to see the new arch, the fibreglass one is very hard to remove and leaks.
