Location of boat Chesapeake Bay
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes I would consider this boat for the waters I sail in and the type of sailing I do. The 26 is a good bay boat capable of going were very few other sailboats can go. The bay has very thin water in places. It is also good as a day sailer and as a weekender. The boat is stable and is easy to sail. We have had our share of boat blues but Hunter has been very cooperative in taking care of any problems we had while the boat was new.
Gear that's been added We have added roller furling on the jib and also lazy jacks for the main. VHF radio and depth sounder have also been installed. In addition we have made provision for a hand held GPS.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features It's ability to get into shallow water. and the ease of sailing.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. We have had blister problems on the Hull. Also out center board has given us some trouble. Hunter took care of both of these with no question.
Sailing characterisitcs Sailing for us has been pleasent. We are not white knuckle sailers and enjoy quiet sailing and the boat has been just fine for that type of activity.
Motoring characterisitcs We have a 9.9 HP Johnson and have had no trouble with it. It get quite a bit of use on the bay as often in the summer there is dead calm so in order to get anywere we have to resort to slow but steady motor power.
Liveability For a boat only 26 feet in length we find it very good for a weekend cruise. I would not want to be on board for much longer than that.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I have dealt directly with Hunter and have had no trouble in communication or in any help I needed from them. In my experience they have been very good to deal with both in a new boat and in after sale problems.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought the boat from a dealer who is no longer in business. I have had the boat repaired by a much larger Hunter dealer and have had a good relationship with them given the fact that they did not sell me the boat in the first place
Other comments In the main our experience has been positive. However of course I cannot speak for others who may not have had the same co-0peration as I have had. The boat itself has been what we expected it to be and we have no real complaint about the vessel, the Company or its dealers.
