Review of the Hunter 34 by Tim Davis

Year built 1984
Location of boat Lake Pepin, Wisconsin
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. Good value. This model preferred over newer models such as the 310
Gear that's been added Yes. Audio upgrades.
Structural or complex improvements None planned. May add roller furling, but for now am happy with a variety of head sails.
The boat's best features Point high to windward. Seems to be well constructed.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The B & R rig will not allow wing and wing point of sail.
Sailing characterisitcs In a steady breeze I can set the wheel for long periods without adjustment. Points 30 degrees in a good breeze. Good in light air and heavy air.
Motoring characterisitcs Yanmar moves the boat easily at 6.5 knots using a Martek folding prop.
Liveability Prefer the restaurant style seating. Roomy for the most part. Space between sing and companionway is a little tight. Aft berth is a little claustraphobic especially for the inside sleeper. Like the alcohol stove with the Swedish cannisters (never thought I would say that about alcohol stoves). Wouldn't change any other thing.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Not applicable.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
