Review of the Hunter 260 by James O'Brien

Year built 1998
Location of boat Hampton Bays N.Y.
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes I think the shallow draft of the 26 whith water ballast is great.I like the way she sails it gives the feel of a much larger boat.
Gear that's been added I have added a roller jib, which helps when sailing alone. I also added shore power which is nice as i keep it at a slip for the summer.
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features Shallow, Draft Good sailing qualites, Ease of trailering in and out in spring and fall.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Raising and lowering the mast is not as easy as they would have you believe.
Sailing characterisitcs I find in higher winds I roll the jib half in, and reef the main, and the boat sails rather Well up to a point.
Motoring characterisitcs The boat came with a honda 7 HP which I felt was not enough power. I use the Shinnecock Cannel which has a 7 to 10 knot current at times,so I changed to a 9.9 Ymaha which does a better job.
Liveability Great for week ends.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I bought my boat used from a hunter dealer and was satisfied.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any All good so far
Other comments Im happy with the way it sails, trails and moters.
