Review of the Hunter 33.5 by Dave Auld

Owner bought the boat in 95  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, its been a great boat. Almost every problem I have had with the boat has been caused by myself or other owner. Its very roomy and stable. I feel safe in big water on it. With the bulb wing keel it heels very little compared with other simular boats I have sailed on. It has a light wind rig, anything over 15 kts and i only let the jib out. The yanmar is great, never had a problem or broke down.  
Gear that's been added A dodger, bearing rail for main, converted main to full batten and added bat-cars, main gos up/down real easy, almost never use winch handle.  
Structural or complex improvements What is there works good, I am a structural/mechanical engineer and I saw no need for improvment. I wouldnt want to take this boat around the world though.  
The boat's best features Roomy, very well laid out, easy to sail, swim platform, bulb wing keel  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The accessibility of some hardware items is impossible. Changing the shift and throttle cables was a nightmare. Had to make access hatch for back of motor, dip stick also hard to get at.  
Sailing characterisitcs Great to sail,heels very little, sail go up/down easy  
Motoring characterisitcs The 18 hp yanmar stuggles in head winds but keeps the pace  
Liveability Very good for a close couple or 4 on the weekend  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) excellent, they are very helpful, the most i have ever experienced. The searay folks are trouble  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Got it from the dealer in miami beach marina, did not like the dealer, felt i was mislead about certain items. Surveyor didnt report some things that could of reduced price (recommended by broker). Didnt return phone calls, said the boat wasnt worth his time. Never buy anything from them again.  
Other comments I have owned two hunters, a 28.5 before this one. I have always been happy with the boats I would only buy hunter sailboats
