Review of the Hunter 30_74-83 by Joel Furlong

Year built 1980
Location of boat Buford, GA
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1990
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I,ve had minor problems (fuel pump, head gasket) with the Yanmar 2QM15, but overall the boat has been trouble free. Very roomy, sails well in 8 knot winds.
Gear that's been added
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Good sailing characteristics in heavy air, very comfortable for one or two people for long weekends.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Minor engine problems (see above). Location of chainplates inconvenient for walking forward. Shape of bow pulpit interferes with headsail when coming about.
Sailing characterisitcs All sailing on this boat has been on inland lakes. Winds up to 25 - 30 mph. My only complaint is unresponsive in light air, but this is to be expected in a 30' cruiser of this weight.
Motoring characterisitcs 2QM15 provides more than enough power for lakes. Can't steer in reverse.
Liveability Very roomy and comfortable for one or two people for long weekends. No experience for periods longer than a week.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
