Mast Raising

My Hunter 212 was missing the mast support bar for trailering. So, I got a strong 2x4, painted it white, and added a roller to make moving the mast back and forth for trailering easy. Two issues 1) I had to lift the mast to get the spreaders over the support bar and, 2) when I did this the mast balance point was aft of this bar meaning the mast wanted to fall of the back of the boat. Easy when you have another person assisting you but not when alone. I have not yet mastered the art of being in two places at once or growing extra hands/arms. Thought of some elaborate fixes but ended up making a short line with clips at either end. Clip one to the mast and the other to an eye install just aft of the mast step and, voila, you have something to prevent the mast from falling off the boat while you lift the spreaders clear of the bar. This eye (I used an eye strap) aft of the mast step also provides an attachment point for a rope to go over the cabin hatch as extra precaution to make sure it doesnt fly away when going down the road.
