The original cabin hatch for the Hunter 212 is fine for storage or going down the road but not so good when the boat is on the water so I made a new one. My hatch cover is fairly simple cloth cover with sew in pockets for wood battens. The wood battens were ripped using a table saw from a 1x oak board laying around in my shop creating strips that were 3/4 wide by 1/4 thick. I left the material a little long so it would drape over the sides of the opening and installed 4 snaps (2 forward and 2 aft) to hold the cover on and keep it down when rolled over the hatch. We used it on a cruise in Florida and found it very convenient and surprisingly sturdy. You will need to wax the threat for waterproofing.
