The original cabin hatch for the Hunter 212 is fine for storage or going down the road but not so good when the boat is on the water so I made a new one. My hatch cover is fairly simple cloth cover with sew in pockets for wood battens. The wood battens were ripped using a table saw from a 1x oak board laying around in my shop creating strips that were 3/4 wide by 1/4 thick. I left the material a little long so it would drape over the sides of the opening and installed 4 snaps (2 forward and 2 aft) to hold the cover on and keep it down when rolled over the hatch. We used it on a cruise in Florida and found it very convenient and surprisingly sturdy. You will need to wax the threat for waterproofing.

Here is the top rolled up to give access to the cabin. It stayed like this when we were using the boat and wasnt in the way of sailing. It is easy to store down below when using the hardtop for trailering or storage.
