Access to area behind shore power panel.

posted 09-12-2008 by Steve and Rich Wallace

I would like to install a CATV jack for the marina cable connection and I want to install it where the others are located. I need to snake a coax from there to the nav station. The only way appears to cut through the shower or the bulkhead/cabinet back inside the cabinet above the reefer. Thought Id ask here before I break out the zip saw. As always, Thanks .

Richs reply: Did That On My 42. You can reach that area by taking out the forward square panel in the aft head shower stall. This panel gives access to the back of the engine instrument panel but you can reach forward and outward and get to the back of the power and water inlets. I picked out a place for the cable inlet and drilled a hole just large enough to pass a cable (without the ends) through and into the area by the instrument panel. I took that wire from there to the medicine chest and then rearward to the hanging locker in the aft cabin. I put all the connections there for the TV in the aft cabin and then fed the line across the cabin behind the fuel tank and then through the setee and hanging lockers to the nav desk where I put the connectors from the cable, antenna on the mast, and the salon TV. The only thing I can add is to use tne expensive quad core cable wire and the expensive cable ends. If you ever decide to have high speed Internet via the cable, the high quality wire and ends will reduce the aggravation....a lot.
