Galley faucet replacement

See Old faucet and sink removed

My 1981 H33 galley faucet had begun to leak. Rather than to only replace the washers, I decided to update the whole assembly. Home Depot had a nice one for a decent price. I thought the job would be easier with the sink removed. As you can see, the holes in the counter-top are very large. The old faucet was mounted on a teak pedestal that I didnt want to re-use.

Because the counter-top holes were so large, I made an aluminum backing plate to mount the new faucet. It was a very tight fit with the new faucet base just covering the holes in the counter-top. I re-used the original plumbing to the new faucet.

Placing the sink back into the opening was difficult. The sink is held in place with a small L-bracket at each corner. Pressed in hardware on the sink pass through the holes in the brackets. Wing-nuts are then screwed onto the threaded hardware of the sink. The screw on the lower-right of the picture was impossible to get into the bracket and secured; not enough room for my hand to get in that tight space. I tightened up the other three, and decided that was close enough. It should last another 20 years (I hope). Total cost for this project: about $40. Total time: about 2-hours.
